About OQ | English Osteopathy Clinic in Kyoto

⚠️ Please confirm you have the right clinic. A similarly-named clinic exists nearby. We are the original Kyoto Osteopathy Center, established in February 2007.

KYOTO OSTEOPATHY CENTER OQ — ABOUT US

A clinic built on one conviction:
the body knows how to heal.

OQ opened in central Kyoto in February 2007. For nearly two decades, we have offered osteopathic and physiotherapy care in English and Japanese — for newborns, children, adults, and elderly patients — from a quiet clinic two minutes from Hankyu Omiya Station.

We don’t see ourselves as a clinic that “treats pain.” We see ourselves as a clinic that helps people understand their body — what it’s doing, why, and what conditions it needs to move toward ease. That distinction shapes everything about how we work.

What makes OQ different

🎓 Internationally qualified

In Japan, “osteopathy” is unregulated — anyone can use the term. Yusuke’s BSc(Ost) from Swansea University (Wales) and M.I.C.O. membership reflect internationally recognised standards that are rare in Japan.

🗣️ Fully English-speaking

Yusuke conducts all consultations in English — case history, assessment, treatment, and home advice. No translator needed. You can describe exactly what you feel and understand exactly what we find.

🕰️ Established February 2007

OQ has been operating in Kyoto for nearly two decades. Many of our patients have been coming for years — some since childhood. That continuity of care is something we value deeply.

👶 Families welcome

We see patients of all ages — from newborns to elderly. A childcare service is available during Yusuke’s sessions (please enquire when booking). Buggy access is available on the ground floor.

🌿 A different way of thinking

We don’t claim to “cure.” We work with the body’s inherent capacity to self-regulate. Our job is to identify what’s limiting that capacity and create better conditions for the body to do what it already knows how to do.

⭐ 4.9★ · 120+ Google reviews

Our reviews reflect a long track record with both local and international patients. We take clinical quality and the therapeutic relationship seriously — not just outcomes.

Frequently asked questions

Is OQ the original Kyoto Osteopathy Center?

Yes. OQ was established in February 2007 and is the original clinic operating under this name in Kyoto. A similarly-named clinic opened more recently in the same area. If you have any doubt about which clinic you’re booking, please confirm via WhatsApp or check the address: 466 Shichikencho, Nakagyo-ku.

What conditions do you see?

Between Yusuke and Sota, we cover a wide range — from infant cranial work and developmental concerns, pregnancy and postnatal care, women’s health (PCOS, thyroid, menopause), autoimmune and skin conditions, IBS, to post-stroke rehabilitation, lumbar and lower limb pain, scoliosis, and gait. If you’re unsure whether your condition is something we can help with, please get in touch before booking.

How is osteopathy different from chiropractic or massage?

Osteopathy treats the body as a whole unit — not just the area of pain. Where chiropractic focuses primarily on spinal adjustment and massage focuses on soft tissue, osteopathy integrates musculoskeletal, visceral, cranial, and nervous system assessment into one clinical picture. The philosophy is that structure and function are interrelated, and that the body has an inherent capacity to self-regulate when given the right conditions. More details: What is Osteopathy?
