For infant osteopathy (newborn to 18 months), please see our Paediatric Osteopathy page.
This page focuses on school-age children (approximately 5–17 years).
Why Children Benefit from Osteopathy
Children are not small adults. Their musculoskeletal systems are still developing, and the patterns established in childhood can persist into adult life.
Common presentations in school-age children include:
Headaches
Children do get headaches — often tension-type related to screen time, posture, or cervical tension. Misdiagnosis as “school avoidance” is common.
Posture and Scoliosis
Asymmetrical posture, early-onset scoliosis, and “slouching” can have structural components that benefit from early assessment and management.
Growing Pains and Sports Injuries
Osgood-Schlatter (knee), Sever’s disease (heel), and other growth plate conditions are common in active children. We address the mechanical loads contributing to these.
ADHD and Developmental Concerns
While osteopathy does not treat ADHD, supporting the nervous system and reducing physical tension may contribute to daily functioning. We work alongside educational and medical support.
Dental and Jaw Issues
Mouth breathing, tongue tie, jaw tension, and related orthodontic concerns have a cranial component that osteopathy can address.
What to Expect
Sessions for children are adapted to the child’s age and temperament. Techniques are gentle and non-forceful. A parent or guardian is present throughout.
