Re・Form Sojourn

A planned course of sessions during your stay in Kyoto

Bodies change best slowly. A trip is not slow: you have a set number of days. Re・Form Sojourn is how we work with that. We plan a small number of sessions around your itinerary and around how much change your body has room for, go as far as it can comfortably take, and aim at what will still matter months after you fly home.

Sessions are with Yusuke Sakata, BSc(Ost), on the ground floor (1F).

Is this for you?

  • You will be in Kyoto for about a week or longer.
  • Something in your body has been building for a while, and one hour feels too little for it.
  • You are happy to plan sessions into your trip, and to change the plan if your body asks for it.

Only here for a day or two? Read what one session can do. Living in Japan? See how we plan a longer course.

If you need emergency care, please go to a hospital. And if you are looking for a long, relaxing massage, a hotel spa will suit you better than we will.

Three ways to see us

How long you are hereWhat it looks like
One sessionA few daysOne hour, planned around the rest of your trip
Re・Form SojournAbout a week to a monthTwo to five sessions, planned around your stay
Re・FormLiving in JapanUsually 6 to 12 sessions, 7 or 8 on average

A Sojourn is not Re・Form squeezed into fewer days. Your body still changes at its own pace. What we shorten is the planning: we decide early what matters most, and use the days you have for that.

How a Sojourn is planned

A rough guide:

Your staySessions
About a week2 to 3
About two weeks3 to 5
Three weeks to a month2 to 3 a week
  • Never more than three sessions a week.
  • At least one day between sessions. Your body needs time to answer what we did.
  • The first session is usually the day after you land. If the flight was hard on you, we can wait a day.

These are starting points. We adjust the plan after each session, depending on how your body responded.

Three stages

  1. Look first. The first session is a full history, an assessment, and a first layer of work, so we can see how your body answers.
  2. Work in order. The next sessions follow what the first one showed. Usually the thing that matters most to the rest comes first.
  3. Hand over. The last session is about leaving your body in a state you can travel and live with. You leave with a few simple things to do yourself, and you can message Yusuke on WhatsApp after you go home. It is a handover, not an ending.

Fees

Regular fees, paid per session. The same as for anyone who comes to OQ.

  • First session (about 60 minutes): ¥14,300
  • Follow-up: ¥11,000 (about 40 minutes) or ¥16,500 (60 minutes)
  • Sundays and national holidays: ¥18,000. If you ask for one of these days on WhatsApp, we will tell you before we book it.

There is no package and nothing to pay in advance. Full details are in Fees & hours.

Why we don’t sell a package: your trip is about more than us. You may change your dates, add two days in Nara, or feel different mid-week. A package would make that harder for you, and would commit us to sessions that might not be the right call. Paying per session keeps the plan free to change.

How to book

There are two ways in.

  1. Book your first session online. Yusuke will then message you on WhatsApp to talk through your dates, and whether one session or a Sojourn fits.
  2. Or message Yusuke on WhatsApp first and tell us you are thinking about a Sojourn.

Either way, the sessions after the first are arranged on WhatsApp.

If your plans change, please let us know as early as you can, ideally at least 24 hours before.

Before you book flights

If the trip is partly for us, please talk to us before you buy tickets.

  1. Message Yusuke on WhatsApp with a few sentences: what is going on, and when you might travel.
  2. We reply within about two hours while the clinic is open, and tell you whether we would like you to fill in the intake form (about 10 minutes).
  3. We give you a clear answer: yes; yes, with some conditions; we would need a letter from your doctor first; or this is not something we should take on, with where to go instead.
  4. Then you book your trip. Flights, hotels and dates are yours to choose.

The conversation before you book is free.

After you go home

You can message Yusuke on WhatsApp with questions about the things you were given to do, or about how your body is settling.

We cannot assess new symptoms over messages. If something new or worrying comes up, please see a doctor where you are.

We do not offer video sessions. Osteopathy is hands-on. If you want to keep going, a return visit or a practitioner near you are the options, and we are happy to think about that with you.

Where to stay

A flat walk home after a session is often better than a taxi. Gentle movement helps the work settle. A few places near us, from simple to more special:

HotelFrom OQGood to know
Travelodge Kyoto Shijo KarasumaAbout 3 min on footDespite the name, it is next to Omiya, not Karasuma
MIMARU Kyoto Nijo CastleAbout 6 min on footApartment-style rooms with a kitchen and washer-dryer. Good for families and longer stays
Richmond Hotel Premier Kyoto ShijoAbout 8 min on footComfortable mid-range hotel on Shijo-dori
Garrya Nijo Castle KyotoAbout 12 min on footA small, quiet luxury hotel facing Nijo Castle
HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTOAbout 5 min by taxiLuxury hotel with hot-spring baths, near Nijo Castle

We have no arrangement with any of these hotels. If you would rather stay in Gion or by the Kamo River, we are about 15 minutes away by taxi.

Questions people ask before writing

Do I need a medical visa?

No. A normal tourist stay is enough for the care we provide. OQ is an osteopathy clinic, not a medical-tourism institution.

Can my family come with me?

Yes. Partners and children are welcome to sit in. Please let us know in advance so we can arrange the space.

What if my flight changes?

Message us on WhatsApp and we will re-plan with you. Travel chaos happens.

Can a child have a Sojourn?

Yes. Yusuke works with babies and children, including cranial work. If this is part of your trip, mention it in your first message.

What language are sessions in?

English. Yusuke holds a BSc(Ost) from Swansea University, Wales, UK, and works fully in English.

What if you say no?

Then we tell you why, and where we think better help is. There is no charge for that conversation. We would rather prevent a trip that would not help you than take payment for it.

Start with a message

Tell us roughly when you are coming and what is going on. We will tell you honestly whether a Sojourn makes sense.
